Rights and Responsibilities Regarding Women

Book: (Our Class Book)
Time: 120 mins

I decided to talk to my mother about my research topic. My mother knows that I've always been interested in the rights that women have.. Well mostly the rights that US Americans have. This year I decided to focus in on the women in Afghanistan. I told her about all of the laws that the women have had to follow or harsh punishments would happen. I also showed her the articles and stories that I've come across in researching.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Over the past few months, I've decided to research about the rights and responsibilities that women had in Afghanistan. After getting a basic overview off of Wikipedia, I ran across the Taliban. To my knowledge, I had none with knowing that the Taliban were the main reasons that women had trouble living their lives. I wanted to answer my thesis of "How have the rights and responsibilities of women in Afghanistan and developing countries changed over the years?" The Taliban enforced many laws that in my opinion weren't needed at all. Laws such as dancing, having an education, marriage, having jobs, and much more. After reading articles about victims of forced marriages, you can see how forceful the Taliban really were with women and proving their point.

Reading Times

Book: Absolutely True Diary
Time: 120 mins

Well during the weekend I planned on finishing the book... but I was bombarded with volleyball and basketball games this weekend. I'm just happy that i got past page 101 before it was due. But during the day I plan on making another dent in the book so that I don't get behind again. I think that I should start looking at the prompts that we should be answering later on...

The book is getting better. I'm happy that Junior has a "friend" now that him and Rowdy aren't talking anymore after Junior's decision. I still think that Rowdy took it a bit too far. Junior punched a boy in the face on his first day. Surprisingly the boy didn't fight back. Junior has to adjust to the fact that he doesn't have to fight people like he did on the rez (even if he always lost).

Back to reading.....

Research Project & Reading Times

Book: The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
Time: 120 mins

After spending a day in class reading our new class book, I have gained interest into it. Although I feel bad for Junior and what he goes through. So far, I've read how he gets bullied about his brain condition, how his dad had to shoot Oscar his dog to stop the pain he was going through, and how is family is very poor. Although Junior's life isn't all that bad, he has a best friend named Rowdy. I can't wait to read more about Junior and his experiences.

I chose to spend the year on researching on how the rights of women in developing countries have changed throughout the years. Women and female children have suffered the most throughout the years. Mostly because of the Taliban and their rules. If anyone didn't know, the Taliban were a group of men who wanted whatever they said to be enforced, and it was in fact. This week I plan on correcting my annotations and fix what they're lacking. I also plan on going to the library and getting more primary sources to build off of.

Chanler Prompt

What would happen in a world where it was the child's choice to go to school? Would you go to school?

I chose to do Chanler's prompt about if it were a child's place to go to school. In my opinion, i wouldn't think that many children would want to go to school if it were up to them. Even now, whenever we get the option to go to school whenever we get full-day excuses, not many people show up. I'm one of those people who choose not to go to school, who would rather stay home and sleep all day.

If this was up to me I wouldn't go to school everyday. I would go at least 3 times a week and take 2 days off. I wouldn't blow off those two days though, I would take those days to do homework. A world without school isn't great though. You need education to be successful in life. Without education, our society wouldn't be where they need to be and would be lacking. With children not going to school, they wouldn't be where they need to be in life.
